Recreational Fishing

Different people tend to have different hobbies. One of the many hobbies that one may pursue is recreational fishing, which is closely related to sport fishing. When you speak of recreational fishing, it relates to fishing for pleasure and competition. Just as different hobby sports have their individual rules, recreational fishing also has its conventions, rules, licensing restrictions and laws for catching fish.

Some of the rules for sport fishing are that nets should not be used and hooks should only be caught in the mouth. As there are many international sports fishing competitions, the governments of most countries enforce their rules in recreational fishing so that there is sufficient practice in anglers. Recently, tournaments are held where fishermen compete for prizes based on the weight of a certain type of fish that is caught in a stipulated frame of time.

Recreational fishing usually requires a rod, line, hooks, reel and a variety of baits. Terminal tackle like weights and floats may also be used to help in recreational fishing. Sometimes, lures are also used instead of baits. Some hobbyists take pleasure in making their own tackle as they find lots of satisfaction in catching fish with their tackles. Of course, you need a good sports fishing boat too to excel in your hobby of recreational fishing.

Recently, kayak fishing became a new form of recreational fishing and it has grown in popularity. There are many skills that you will need to make kayak fishing truly effective. In fact, once you learn the knack of kayak fishing, you find that as kayaks are very stealthy, anglers find it easy to reach fishing areas that cannot be reached from land or with the help of a conventional boat.

When on a holiday in places like Hawaii where water sports are more emphasized, you have to make it a point to take one of their fishing charters. These fishing charters are usually offered to seat only six passengers per boat. Of course, there will be many boats there to accommodate even bigger groups for fishing charters.

These fishing charters sometimes take the fish that is caught during the trip as a compensation for the crew’s service. However, there are also some fishing charters that permit you to keep as much fish as you desire. You will have to vouch to put the fish to good use, and not waste it. And if you want the fish to be filleted, they usually do it after charging you a nominal cleaning fee.
