Marlin fishing is considered a pinnacle game of offshore game fishing by most fishermen. One reason for this consideration is the power and size, difficulty of capture and relative rarity of marlin fish. The game fish of marlin fishing is also very expensive and requires considerable and vast amount of money in pursuing this as a regular hobby. It is sometimes called marlin deep sea fishing.
A blue marlin fish is regarded as the most sought after species of marlins. It is because blue marlins are very beautiful in forms, has the capability of a spectacular fight, and have the ability to reach a great size. Blue marlin fishing is being practiced by thousands of crews of several ports worldwide. Black marlin fishing is usually practiced in the Pacific and Indian oceans where black marlins are usually found. However, a white marlin fishing tournament is often conducted in the Bahamas where most of the intensely competitive tournaments and championships on marlin fishing is being done. One of the prominent tournaments for marlin fishing is the Bahamas Billfish Championship.
Where is a good place for marlin fishing? Some of the famous and ideal marlin fishing resorts is usually found in water areas of Atlantic, Bahamas Islands, Bermuda. Brazil, Cape Verde Islands, Portugal, Azores, Madeira, Spain, Venezuela, Virgin Islands, Indo-Pacific, Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand, and South Pacific Islands such as Tahiti and Vanuatu. The region of Cairns in Australia is considered the best place for marlin fishing because of the high breed and large marlins being caught there.
Meanwhile, the game fish of marlin fishing is strictly prohibited in Fuerteventura and Tenerife, two of the main islands in Spain. These islands even endorsed some marlin fishing charters to restrict marlin fishing in the areas.
